SF Camerawork, First Exposures Visit

A little while back I had the opportunity to give a talk about my work and do a workshop with the crew at First Exposures. This is a mentoring / photographic education program for young people sponsored by SF Camerawork (a stalwart of the non-profit, contemporary art world). It was great to meet everyone —the students and the mentors. Also, during the workshop, makers created some amazing images. I was truly impressed by the work they did.

Here are two participants. One is showing her packaging that created her image and the other is showing the results of the morning's experiments. First Exposures participants work hard and show up every Saturday morning to make and learn about art. And all of that dedication pays off big. Not only during the program, but you can really see the fruits of their labor during the semester's end exhibition. People seem to under estimate the talent and abilities of kids to create compelling work. Thanks to Erik, the Education Coordinator, for inviting me to visit!
