Portland Pony

Recently I found myself in Portland, Oregon. It was filled with lots of great food, the chance to see lots of good friends and enjoy tons of lollygagging. Sighted in the Mississippi Street district were several ponies tied to their hitch ring. This here fella is one of 'em. I can only imagine what it would look like to see real horses tied to those spots. Thanks to whoever put these guys here. It's nice to be drawn to a part of the city's history that may easily go unnoticed.

Another very cool part of the city’s history was experienced while touring the Shanghai Tunnels. Yes, this is where the term “to be shanghaied” originated. People would be nabbed after drinking too much, held and moved about underground until a captain/buyer was found. Once this happened, you’d be stuck on a ship for 3 to 6 years, often going to the far away port of Shanghai. —A good creepy (and a bit dusty) night tour underneath the buildings of Portland. Well worth the visit if you are in town. The tour guide has an amazing amount of passion for sharing this gem of local times past.
